ORIGIN

South Sea Pearls are regarded as one of the most exceptional gemstones known to man, found only in one region extending from the Indonesian archipelago to Tahiti and down to the north western coast of Australia around Broome and Darwin. In this area the host mollusc ‘Pinctada Maxima’ thrives in the nutrient rich and pollution free waters due to the remoteness of the location.
The only true organic gem, South Sea pearls require no cutting to reveal their natural beauty.

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR PEARLS

There are five basic criteria used to evaluate a pearl.

Lustre or ‘orient’ is the distinct characteristic of a truly beautiful pearl and is the most important consideration when selecting your pearl. South Sea pearls exhibit a rich silky lustre.

Surface: A pearl free from any natural surface blemishes is very rare and as such a find of this nature will increase its value significantly. We choose our pearls to fit our strict criteria of at least 30% clean surface.

Size, Shape and Colour are generally a matter of personal preference and should be chosen to reflect individual style and personality.

South Sea pearls range in size from 10mm -20mm and are harvested in a range of shapes including the classic rounds, drops, ovals and more unusual baroques. There are a stunning array of colours that occur naturally including silver- whites through to the rare deep gold’s and magnificent peacock coloured Tahitians.

CARING FOR YOUR PEARLS

Wait until after applying makeup, perfume and hair products to put on your pearls. Some chemicals as in sunscreen and chlorine may harm pearls.

Storing pearls in their original case will stop pearls rubbing against other harder gems or jewellery that may cause damage.
Occasionally clean pearls gently with a soft damp cloth and dry with another soft cloth. There is no need for detergents or cleaning solutions.
Strands will require restringing from time to time depending on how often they are worn. Signs to look out for are: thread unravelling, movement of pearls between knots or each other and discolouring of thread.
